Well. I'm not really sure what the "Bible" is. And I've never heard of angels or heaven. But I saw this quiz on evankasparov's journal and it was telling him that he was Satan (no "e"), who apparently rules Hell in this "Bible" thing. Well, shit. That was amusing. So I took the quiz.

And what do you know? I got the same result.

I'm assuming there are other villains you can get, but I think this one's fitting, all things considered. *can't decide whether to smirk or giggle*

He smiles, taking the berry from her hand with his lips, teasing his tongue over her finger before taking it into his mouth. He makes a small show of savoring it, licking the juice and cream from his lips.

"The largest of the faiths, another term for which might be way of life, or life path... belief system. It is called Judeo-Christianity, and the word brings together both the old form of the faith and the new. They do have several things in common, however."

His voice is easy to listen to, and there's a smile hovering about his mouth, but somehow he's managed to switch from seducer to teacher.

She nibbles at a couple of berries while she listens attentively. The tiniest of frowns wrinkles her forehead for a moment, as she glances at him. "Belief systems? People believe differently about...what?"

"About things for which there is no tangible proof, nothing that can be seen or smelled or tasted or touched. About what happens after death, and before life, and in the world around them. Some believe that their lives are laid out before they are born, that fate rules. And some believe that they have choice, free will."

"There is debate as to what happens after death?" Her look is highly skeptical. "How can no one know? Do you never speak to your dead?"

"Fate. Yes. What is woven and what webs can be rewoven? The paths the future holds if we travel the same path we are on now. But there are always other paths. Those that don't believe this...who do they think decides?"

Slight smile. "I do. But then, I am not human. Humans do not, as a general rule, speak to their dead. There are those who believe they do. There are those who do, but they are viewed as madmen and charlatans."

Thoughtful, he nibbles at another berry for a moment before answering. That's more of a personal question than most of the divine talk, but. Well, not now. "Gods. Beings that are ... powerful, ineffable. Or the universe, which is often given something of a human personality so that they can feel they understand it better. This is, of course, for those that believe their actions, their lives are predetermined."

She nods slightly, snagging a piece of shortbread to nibble on. "So because no one has real knowledge, they make up things to believe? Or do these gods exist?"

Wryly: "Do you want the quick version or the complicated version?"

She grins, resting her head back on her shoulder. "I want to try and understand, but I don't have to understand it all tonight. So...the short version?"

"People make up things." He grins wryly.

"Does the world have no...truth, no certainty then?"

"There is truth." He strokes her hair, soothing. Kisses her forehead. "There is certainty. There are things that do not change, no matter that there are so many ways of saying the same thing. There are some who study it."

"Study all the different things people believe?" She settles against him again.

"Mm-hmm. The way people ... the customs of different people, the different things they believe, the different ways they act and why." He chuckled ruefully, knowing how she'll react. "It's called anthropology. The word means 'study of man.'"

She rolls her eyes with a slight snort. "And what of women in this world?"

He laughs. And then turns serious. "When the scholars began to study the beliefs and practices of their species, women were considered ... less, somehow. Less intelligent, or perhaps simply less self-controlled. They were relegated to housewives and mothers. The practice has somewhat gone out of favor since then."

She looks horrified for a moment, then settles just for a frown, quiet and thinking.

"And now?"

"Now..." Quietly. "Now, things are improving."

A slightly relieved smile, though still a bit wry. "But not as they should be?"

"No. Not as they should be."

She nods, then says quietly, "They're not as they should be at home, either. Better in Kaeleer than Terreille, but there's still...people have come that want to change it."

"There may always be people who want to change it." He pets her hair, thoughtful. "But then, too, there will also be people who fight against them."

She laughs. "Oh, we've certainly got plenty of those, too. I think Kaeleer will be all right in the end. Least I hope so. I'm growing...fond."

"It will be..." he murmured, though his eyes were distant. Looking off at strings, at patterns, at other stories.

She glances at him sharply, watching his eyes. Touches his cheek gently.

"Weaver of webs, are you?"

He looked up at her. Smiled, wryly, ruefully. His eyes slid into dark, dangerous waters, and the smile turned predator and shark-toothed. Power started to creep up under his skin till it was a wonder it was containing him at all.
