He stared a moment. "A baby?" Then a grin fit to break something split his face in two. "That's great!" His first instinct was to give her a hug, but he hesitated, because while Surreal was technically pretty much his sister-in-law, he didn't really know her that well. Hell, she could be one of those, 'do not touch because of psychic powers' types for all he knew. He obviously needed to get to know her better. But a baby? "This is fantastic, hon."
Next time he saw Sam, he would have to deliver a royal ribbing along with the brotherly pat on the back.
"You have my best wishes, hon, for everything." Eyes sparkling with something bordering on joy.
She smiles wickedly. "All right! Congratulations, Surreal. You two will be wonderful parents. It must have been unnerving to decide--but that's true of every new parent, and you know what you need to already."
Surreal was near giddy. And bouncing, both of which were not normal occurrences, but she couldn't seem to help it.
"Thank you!" She beamed at him. "It is great, isn't it?" Really, this was getting embarassing and she'd likely be blushing when the giddy wore off to think how much she'd been grinning all day.
"VERY unnerving, and then well. I don't think eiher of us is certain about the wonderful parents bit, but we're going to try." She was smiling enough that it didn't seem to be bothering her much. "Thank you."
This is wonderful news, indeed. Smiling. You deserve happiness, sweetheart, and from my own experience, waiting for a child of mine to be born was one of the greatest joys I knew.
