Favorite Way to Relax
Oct. 14th, 2005 11:08 pmDespite what certain people seem inclined to say, the most relaxing evenings I've ever had have been curled up in front of a fire with a novel of other places or other times. Good wine, good company. The soft crackle of the fire and the turn of the page, murmured conversation now and again. Grapes and paper and smoke perfuming the air. Maybe a laugh, a shared joke. Soft touches, nothing sexual, but more intimate for that. It's not so much the book, the reading, though that in and of itself is relaxing, but just the air of comfort. Companionship and contentment. No rush to be anywhere. No clients to service. The freedom to do as I please. The ability to drop my guard and just be me without any of the masks.
Although, to be fair, I will say that a massage and hot bubble bath are a wonderful way to unwind after washing the blood off of my stiletto from a particularly satisfying kill.
