Mother Night.

Steak and Blow Job day?

Is that all you males think of?

I reiterate my statement about Graysfang: The one advantage to wolves is that they can at least lick their own balls.

Perhaps nothing in and of itself. It just seems that the males who are alphas tend to fall into the Warlord Prince caste--possibly because they are by nature the most dangerous and aggressive, but also the ones closest to the land and its Queens.

*nods, listening and taking it in*

So their role is set at birth?

[identity profile] birthrightgreen.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Not set, really. They still have the freedom to choose, but their temperment and capacity to handle power and natural gifts are aligned, just as they are in all of us. Our system just makes those natural gifts and capacities more...obvious outwardly.

So, in otherwords, a beta pup will grow up to be a beta wolf.

*nods*

Yes. At least that's how it works among the human Blood, and it makes sense that it works the same way among the Kindred.

[identity profile] shifterschuyler.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Fascinating.

So dominance battles are less of an issue?

[identity profile] birthrightgreen.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure if "less" is a term I would use, not knowing how they are for you. It's a dance. One could be born of a lower caste, but have a deeper, darker resevoir of power to draw upon, which could make them more dominant than someone of a higher caste, or at least more of a threat should they choose to exercise that power. Who is dominant and who is submissive can change fluidly, dependant on the situation.

For instance, I am just a witch, the next to lowest caste of Blood females. But I wear a Jewel that only a handful of Blood, male or female, can match or beat for strength. That gives me power my social status and caste do not. I have a friend who is a Warlord Prince, the highest caste a male may be in. However, his Jewel strength is less than mine. Who leads? Who has dominance between us?

It's a constant dance. For sheer strength, I could win a fight, but the Blood respect social status and caste as well. If he chose to assert that caste status, it would be expected of me to give it consideration. But then the balance also sways in my favor in that we are a matriarchal society, so being female gives me more power. But he is an aristocrat and I am a former whore. So his social status trumps mine.

Who had power would depend utterly on the situation.

But for my Graysfang, he is young. He is only a Warlord. He wears a light Jewel. For him to challenge his Alpha would be foolish in the extreme and likely get him killed. Another Warlord Prince or a Warlord with a darker Jewel than the Alpha's, however, could, and I would assume that there are battles of that sort on as regular a basis as anywhere else.

ooc: *wry grin* No one's asked her this many questions before. She's practically glowing. And clearly chatty.

"So what's a jewel." Jason smiles then looking a litte, uh, sheepish. "Sorry for asking all these questions, but this is fascinating."

ooc - Jason's a chatty, and surprisingly curious pup! :D

[identity profile] birthrightgreen.livejournal.com 2006-03-24 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Surreal smiles back, and flushes a little. "Sorry, I guess I got ahead of myself. I don't mind the questions at all. Most people..." She shrugs a little.

"When we are children, after we have studied Craft--magic--for a while, we go through what's known as a Birthright Ceremony. At that time, after our knowledge and depth of power is tested, we are given a Jewel that represents the depth of our power and also holds that power as a resevoir for us. Whe we reach adulthood, we go through another ceremony and have a chance to receive a new Jewel--a darker one symbolizing a greater depth of power."

Oh, cool. Very, very cool.

So is Graysfang wears a light jewel, and isn't likely to get a very dark jewel?

[identity profile] birthrightgreen.livejournal.com 2006-03-24 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
*frowning a little, thoughtful*

You know, he's at an age he might've made his Offering already and the Purple Dusk he wears might be his darker jewel. I haven't actually asked...

If not, then he could descend as dark as a Sapphire, which is classed as a Dark rather than Light Jewel, but isn't that dark.

I'll have to ask him.

[identity profile] shifterschuyler.livejournal.com 2006-03-25 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
*nods* Well, I can see how the intersection of Caste and Jewel strength make the dominance dance all the more interesting.

[identity profile] birthrightgreen.livejournal.com 2006-03-26 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
*wry smile* For human and wolf.

[identity profile] birthrightgreen.livejournal.com 2006-03-27 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
It keeps life from getting dull.

[identity profile] shifterschuyler.livejournal.com 2006-03-27 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
And we mustn't have that. *winks*

[identity profile] shifterschuyler.livejournal.com 2006-03-30 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
ooc - ftb?

I'm sure Jason will bother Surreal again though!

[identity profile] birthrightgreen.livejournal.com 2006-03-30 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
ooc: *g* sure. :) *pets him*
